How to get to Fort Smith

All Season Driving

Include a driving adventure with your Aurora Nights vacation with a 1,300-kilometer trip from Edmonton to Fort Smith. Start in the early morning light and you’ll be greeted by the evening sky in Fort Smith around 15 hours later. You’ll cross the legendary 60th Parallel, the shimmering sub-arctic waters of Great Slave Lake, then reach Wood Buffalo National Park (WBNP).

Winter Driving

You can also have an ice road adventure. From mid-December to mid-March, the glistening snow will guide you from Fort McMurray to the northern safari of Wood Buffalo National Park, home of the world’s largest land mammal – the Bison. To ensure the road is open, call the hotlines at 1-866-743-6111 (Alberta section) and 1-867-872-7962(WBNP) for road information.

Flying

See the beauty of the unfolding North from a higher perspective through scheduled flights from Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, Peace River, Fort McMurray or Yellowknife. You’ll get a taste of northern hospitality with Fort Smith based Northwestern Air.
